Philmont Wildfire Mitigation: Slash Pile Burning
Reducing forest fuels has been a top priority for Philmont Conservation since the Ute Park Fire in 2018. Crews of Staff and Scouts alike have been working to thin our forests by cutting down small trees and shrubs that hold the potential to exacerbate destructive crown fires. By eliminating this excess fuel, larger and healthier trees stand a better fighting chance. The excess "slash" is arranged into dense piles in the forest which, upon adequate snowfall, can be burned in an epic display. #philmont #pileburning #TSI #conservationcontinues #newmexicotrue #scoutmein
